چکیده

Minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery is widely used for the treatment of cancer and other diseases. During the procedure, gas insufflation is used to create space for laparoscopic tools and operation. Insufflation causes the organs and abdominal wall to deform significantly. Due to this large deformation, the benefit of surgical plans, which are typically based on pre-operative images, is limited for real time navigation. In some recent work, intra-operative images, such as cone-beam CT or interventional CT, are introduced to provide updated volumetric information after insufflation. Other works in this area have focused on simulation of gas insufflation and exploited only the pre-operative images to estimate deformation. This paper proposes a novel registration method for pre- and intra-operative 3D image fusion for laparoscopic surgery. In this approach, the deformation of pre-operative images is driven by a biomechanical model of the insufflation process. The proposed method was validated by five synthetic data sets generated from clinical images and three pairs of in vivo CT scans acquired from two pigs, before and after insufflation. The results show the proposed method achieved high accuracy for both the synthetic and real insufflation data.

Intra-Operative Model-Image Registration for Ultrasound Annotation

We have developed a method for registering pre-operative CT/MR images with intra-operative 3D ultrasound images for guiding percutaneous procedures. Our system extracts models of the vessels and surfaces from the pre-operative data and then registers those models directly with the intra-operative data. There is no need to extract models from the intra-operative data. During registration optimiz...

Manual Alignment of CT and Ultrasound Images for Computer- Assisted Shoulder Arthroscopy

Many computer-assisted orthopaedic surgery applications employ a three-dimensional surface model of the anatomy of the patient for pre-operative planning. Registering the model to the coordinates of the patient in the operating room usually requires additional intra-operative images of the patient. To achieve accurate registration results using registration algorithms such as iterative closest ...

Video-based 3D reconstruction, laparoscope localization and deformation recovery for abdominal minimally invasive surgery: a survey.

BACKGROUND The intra-operative three-dimensional (3D) structure of tissue organs and laparoscope motion are the basis for many tasks in computer-assisted surgery (CAS), such as safe surgical navigation and registration of pre-operative and intra-operative data for soft tissues. METHODS This article provides a literature review on laparoscopic video-based intra-operative techniques of 3D surfa...

Efficient Multi-organ Segmentation in Multi-view Endoscopic Videos Using Pre-operative Priors

Synergistic fusion of pre-operative (pre-op) and intraoperative (intra-op) imaging data provides surgeons with invaluable insightful information that can improve their decision-making during minimally invasive robotic surgery. In this paper, we propose an efficient technique to segment multiple objects in intra-op multi-view endoscopic videos based on priors captured from pre-op data. Our appro...

3D Surface Reconstruction of Organs Using Patient-Specific Shape Priors in Robot-Assisted Laparoscopic Surgery

With the advent of robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery (RALS), intra-operative stereo endoscopy is becoming a ubiquitous imaging modality in abdominal interventions. This high resolution intra-operative imaging modality enables the reconstruction of 3D soft-tissue surface geometry with the help of computer vision techniques. This reconstructed surface is a prerequisite for many clinical applica...
